A Chrysalis Learning Centre, Hilton Therapy Program

DIR Floortime

what is dir floortime?

Developmental Individual-difference Relationship ( DIR) Floortime, also known as Floortime therapy, is a relationship-based intervention designed for children with autism. In Floortime, the term “floortime” itself signifies the approach of engaging with the child at their level by encouraging parents to join their children on the floor for interactive play sessions.

Serving as an alternative to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Floortime is sometimes utilized in conjunction with ABA therapies. The primary objective is to facilitate the expansion of a child’s “circles of communication.” Practitioners, including therapists and parents, aim to meet children at their developmental level, capitalizing on their strengths and interests.

During Floortime sessions at Chrysalis Learning Centre, Hilton therapists actively participate in activities that resonate with each child. The approach involves immersing themselves in the child’s preferred games, following the child’s lead, and building meaningful interactions that support the child’s developmental progress.
